Crystallizable PET shrink sleeve labels for PET bottles
In the global market of product decoration and brand promotion, shrink sleeves are poised for significant growth rates, as they provide full 360°, top-to-bottom decoration for a broad variety of packaging types such as bottles, cups, trays, etc.
Consequently, shrink sleeves may help to reduce the need for mass-colored bottles. This helps to improve the quality of recycled bottle materials and supports a wider range of applications for the recyclate.
Shrink sleeves offer an effective labeling technology that combines high quality graphics with complex container geometries to maximize shelf appeal of FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) products.
In terms of volume PETG (glycol modified PET) film is currently the most abundant film type used for shrink sleeve labels in Europe and North America and has largely replaced PVC and Polystyrene based shrink sleeves.
Historically, when recycling PET containers labeled with full body shrink sleeves, it was crucial to completely remove the shrink sleeve material from the PET bottle recycling stream to avoid subsequent processing issues with the recycled PET due to material incompatibility.
While brand owners strive to see a 100% recyclability of their packaging material, current PETG shrink sleeves are considered a disruptor for the PET bottle recycling and have to be separated from the bottle PET stream. Given the trend of thin-walled PET bottles, this situation becomes even more problematic, as a quantitative mechanical separation of shrink sleeves also leads to increased losses of PET bottle recyclate in the separation process.
In order to avoid the need for material separation and thus improve the yield and quality of rPET, crystallizable PET (cPET) has been developed as a technically comparable alternative to PETG. In contrast to PETG, crystallizable PET is compatible with the PET bottle recycling stream and does not adversely impact the rPET-quality, enabling the recycling of both materials, the bottle PET and the cPET shrink sleeve simultaneously.
However, because the shrink sleeve is printed, it is necessary to remove the printing inks during the PET bottle recycling process to avoid problems like discoloration and chemical contamination of the recycled PET. In order to ensure complete ink removal from the shrink sleeve in the existing hot washing process, Siegwerk developed washable ink solutions for all relevant printing processes for shrink sleeves. These UV-curing and solvent-based inks and primers ensure a smooth deinking of cPET-based shrink sleeves during the usual washing conditions in the PET bottle recycling process and at the same time are non-bleeding to avoid any contamination of the washing water which might affect the rPET quality.
In order to test the technical feasibility of the concept, cPET in combination with washable inks, Siegwerk partnered with Klöckner Pentaplast and MCC to unlock the use of crystallizable PET shrink sleeves in Europe in the recycling of beverage PET bottles.

The solvent content of PVC ink that dissolves too much solvent in PVC ink will cause the PVC shrink film to dissolve and be torn off during the printing process. However, if PVC-specific printing inks are not used, the printing fastness is not good.
PVC Shrink Films
Heat shrinkable film is widely used for the whole package of aluminum profile packaging, doors and windows, wine, cans, mineral water, various beverages, cloth and other products. PVC Shrink Films, with additional ingredients to enhance its heat resistance, toughness, ductility, etc. The top layer of this surface film is lacquer, the main component in the middle is polyvinyl chloride, and the bottom layer is a back coating adhesive. It is a synthetic material that is loved, popular and widely used in the world today. Among the materials that can produce three-dimensional surface films, PVC is the most suitable material. It is widely used in the building materials industry and the packaging industry due to its unique properties of PVC (rainproof, fire-resistant, antistatic, easy forming) and its low input and high output.
Features of PVC heat shrinkable film:
1. The appearance of the product is smooth, the thickness is uniform, no obvious spots, no oil stains, impurities, or folds;
2. High thermal shrinkage, the horizontal shrinkage is 48 ± 3%, and the vertical 12 ± 3% is close to the product. It can be shrunk with a heat shrink machine, or with a hair dryer and water.
3. Good flexibility performance. After the package shrinks, it will fall from the height of 1 meter from the vertical and horizontal directions to the concrete floor three times without cracking;
4. After the package is shrunk, it should be stored under the environment of 30 ℃ without any color change such as discoloration and discoloration.
PVC shrink film labels are part of the label market and are currently in rapid growth. The market share is constantly expanding. The annual growth rate is expected to be about 15%, which is much higher than the general label market's annual growth rate of about 5%. The characteristics and huge development prospects have become a highlight of the label printing industry. It is predicted that the domestic heat shrinkable film market will grow at a rate of more than 20% in the next 5 years.
The manufacturing of PVC shrink film labels has high technical requirements. Especially when printing PVC shrink films, how to control the drying temperature is very important. For ordinary water-based and solvent-based inks, the drying temperature is too high. , The material undergoes heat shrinkage; if the temperature is too low, the ink is not sufficiently dried, resulting in problems such as adhesion and back surface dirtiness, so the process is quite complicated and the reject rate is high. At present, the latest production process has three processes. It is made of polyethylene and copolymerized polypropylene as raw materials, added with additives, and processed by co-extrusion blow molding. This process is different from the traditional one because it has poor melt properties, so it uses The double film bubble process is based on the principle of extruding raw materials from different machines, co-extruding the die, quenching after forming, and then heating and stretching to obtain the product.
WIDE APPLICATION OF PVC SHRINK FILM IN DAILY LIFE
PVC Shrink Films is a thermoplastic film that is stretched and oriented during the production process and shrinks with heat during use. The heat shrinkability of the film was applied as early as 1936. At first, rubber films were mainly used to shrink and package perishable food. Nowadays, heat shrink technology has been developed to almost all kinds of goods with plastic shrink film. In addition, shrink packaging is also used to make shrink labels and shrink caps, so that containers that are not easy to print or have complex shapes can be labeled. Recently, more and more new application fields have been developed. Production technology and characteristics The production of packaging films usually uses extrusion blow molding or extrusion casting to produce thick films, and then longitudinal and transverse stretching at a high elastic temperature above the softening temperature and below the melting temperature, or only It stretches in one direction and does not stretch in the other direction. The former is called biaxially stretched shrink film, while the latter is called unidirectional shrink film. When in use, when the temperature is higher than or close to the stretching temperature, the shrinkage force reliably wraps the packaged product.
PVC Shrink Films
PVC shrink film is mainly used in food and beverages. In line with Transparent PVC Shrink Wrap Film, it is non-toxic and non-polluting. It is used in outer packaging. From this perspective, PVC shrink film has made a great contribution to the protection of the ecological environment.
The melting temperature of PVC during processing is a very important process parameter. If this parameter is improper, it will lead to the problem of material decomposition. The flow characteristics of PVC are quite poor and the process range is narrow. In particular, large molecular weight PVC materials are difficult to process (this material usually incorporates a lubricant to improve flow characteristics), so small molecular weight PVC materials are generally used.
PVC shrinkage is quite low, generally 0.2 to 0.6%. Polyethylene films are generally produced by both blow molding and casting processes. The blown polyethylene film is blown from the blow molding grade PE particles by a blow molding machine, and has a low cost, so it is widely used. The thickness of the cast polyethylene film is uniform, but it is rarely used because of its high price.

HEAT SHRINKABLE FILM HAS GOOD HEAT SEALING PROPERTIES
The stable state of the polymer chain of PVC Films For Labeling tends to be in a curled state. When the polymer is heated and melted in a high elastic state, the polymer chain is stretched and oriented under the action of an external force. And after the idle cooling reaches the glass transition temperature, the orientation state of the polymer chain is frozen. When the temperature rises again, the polymer chain tends to be in a stable state, curling occurs, and appears as shrinkage.
PVC Shrink Printing Film
From the principle of shrinkage, there is no chemical change, so it is called "physical reduction." Blow molding to obtain PVC Shrink Printing Film is obtained by using the above principle and rapidly cooling after two inflation. PVC heat shrinkable film is a new type of packaging material popular in the world. It has good transparency, good toughness, impact resistance, corrosion resistance and low water vapor transmission. There is also an ideal shrinkage rate. When the film is subjected to a certain temperature, it shrinks automatically and tightly wraps the goods, thereby protecting the goods, and also functions as moisture proof, mildew proof, rust proof, pollution prevention, injury prevention and anti-theft function. Commodity storage stability, packaging process and equipment are relatively simple, it is easy to achieve automatic shrink packaging. PVC heat shrinkable film is used for the sale and transportation of various products. Its main function is to stabilize, cover and protect the product. The shrink film must have high puncture resistance, good shrinkage and certain shrinkage stress during the shrinkage process. The film can not produce holes. Since PVC heat shrinkable film is often used outdoors, it is necessary to add UV anti-UV agent.
It is used in pallet wrapping and other wrapping packaging, and it is widely used in foreign trade export, bottle making, paper making, hardware and electrical appliances, plastics, chemicals, building materials, agricultural products, food and other industries. The heat shrinkable film first appeared in Germany in the Second World War. It used PVDC and was used to package weapons after two-way stretching to prevent rust. Therefore, the heat shrinkable film was used in industrial packaging after industrial production from the beginning, and then the heat shrinkable film was used for food packaging.

COMMON SHRINK WRAPPING PROBLEMS
Shrink wrapping is a widely used packaging technique that involves wrapping a plastic film around a product or a group of products and then applying heat to shrink the film tightly and conform to the shape of the items. While shrink wrapping offers numerous benefits, such as protection, tamper resistance, and improved aesthetics, it can also encounter various challenges that may lead to packaging issues. Here are some common shrink wrapping problems that can arise:
Wrinkling or Bunching: Wrinkling or bunching of the shrink film can occur during the shrinking process, resulting in an uneven and unattractive appearance. This may happen due to improper film tension, incorrect heat settings, or inadequate airflow during the shrinking process.
Film Dog Ears: Dog ears refer to the small triangular flaps of excess film that can form at the corners of a wrapped package. This problem may arise if the film is not properly sealed and trimmed at the edges of the package.
PLA Shrink Film
Burnt Film or Holes: Excessive heat application or hot spots can lead to burnt spots or holes in the shrink film. This can compromise the integrity of the package and expose the contents to potential damage.
Sealing Issues: Incomplete or weak seals can occur when the film is not properly sealed along the edges. This may be caused by insufficient heat, inadequate pressure, or poor-quality sealing equipment.
Tunneling or Tunnel Collapse: Tunneling refers to the situation where the shrink film forms a tunnel-like shape around the product, leaving excessive loose film around the sides. Tunnel collapse happens when the film shrinks excessively and tightly around the product, causing the tunnel to collapse inward. Both issues can be due to incorrect heat settings, poor film quality, or improper adjustments on the shrink wrapping equipment.
PETG Shrink Film
Poor Film Adhesion: Sometimes, the shrink film may not adhere properly to the product's surface, resulting in loose or uneven coverage. This can be due to contaminants on the product's surface or inadequate heat exposure during the shrinking process.
Product Distortion: Certain products, especially those with irregular shapes or sharp edges, can experience distortion or deformation during the shrinking process. Inadequate film tension, improper positioning, or excessive heat can contribute to this problem.
Film Jamming: Film jamming can occur when the shrink film gets stuck in the sealing or cutting mechanisms of the packaging equipment. This can disrupt the packaging process, leading to downtime and potential damage to the equipment.
Inconsistent Shrinkage: Inconsistent shrinkage across different parts of the package can result in an uneven appearance. This may be due to variations in heat distribution within the shrink tunnel or improper film tension.
Film Discoloration: Shrink film can sometimes develop discoloration or a cloudy appearance after the shrinking process. This can be caused by excessive heat, poor-quality film, or inadequate cooling after shrinking.
To address these common shrink wrapping problems, it's essential to ensure proper equipment setup, regular maintenance, quality control, and operator training. By addressing these challenges, you can achieve effective and attractive shrink-wrapped packaging that enhances product protection and presentation.

PVC shrink film has good shrinkage, moisture resistance, high toughness, good transparency, etc., and simple packaging technology, beautiful appearance, puncture resistance, can also increase the added value of packaging products, cost-effective, widely used in doors and windows, aluminum materials, plaster lines, stainless steel, chemical products, electronic components and ceramics, metal accessories and other packaging.
PVC Shrink Films
PVC shrink film is made after secondary inflation and rapid cooling, so what principle does it use?
The linear polymer long chain of PVC shrink film is usually in a curled state. When the polymer is heat-melted in a highly elastic state, the polymer chain is stretched and aligned under the action of external force, and then rapidly cooled, the orientation state of the polymer chain is frozen. When the temperature rises again, the polymer chain tends to a stable state, curls, and it appears to shrink in a macroscopic view. From the principle of shrinkage, there is no chemical change, so it is called "physical reduction".
Commonly used PVC shrink film is made of polyvinyl chloride resin and dozens of auxiliary materials after being blown up. It has the characteristics of good transparency, easy shrinkage, high strength, shrinkage rate can be freely adjusted according to user needs, and strong operability. But we need to know how to judge the quality of PVC shrink film, then from what aspects to judge the quality of PVC shrink film? The suppliers of Environmentally Friendly PLA Shrink Film will come to tell you.
The first thing to look at is the transparency and gloss of the PVC shrink film. High-quality PVC shrink film has good transparency and gloss. If you look in the sun, there are not many impurities;
Then, the choice of PVC resin model is the key to the production of PVC shrink film. It should choose a resin with good comprehensive properties and easy to plasticize. As far as the molecular weight of resin is concerned, generally the molecular weight increases, the product's thermal stability, blown film calenderability, tensile strength, impact strength and other properties will be improved to varying degrees, and the physical properties of plastic products can also be improved. However, the molecular weight is not as large as possible. If the molecular weight is too large, the plasticizing temperature will be increased, the fluidity and ductility of the resin will be deteriorated, and it will cause difficulties to the thermal stabilization system and secondary inflation;
Third: A good quality shrink film shrinks quickly when it is packaged by a shrink film. On the contrary, a poor quality shrink film does not shrink well, or it needs two or three heat shrinks to complete the shrinking process;
Fourth: sealing performance. When the shrink film passes through the shrink film packaging machine, the PVC heat shrink film will break, wrinkle or have small holes, which is caused by poor sealing performance. High-quality PVC shrink film has good sealing performance. After the heat shrinking process is completed, it is very beautiful and can really achieve the expected shrinkage effect;
Fifth: puncture resistance, that is, the shrink film has the protective effect we want during product transportation. High-quality shrink film has high puncture resistance and is not easy to puncture;
Sixth: Strong shrink memory function and good shrink tightness, which are reflected in the protection of the product when the entire product and parts are shrink-wrapped, and will not form scattered or incomplete packaging.
The above is how to judge the quality of PVC shrink film introduced by Multi-purpose Shrink Film Manufacturer. I hope it can help everyone.

Knowledge About Shrink sleeve
Shrink Sleeves are one of the fastest growing segments in the label industry. As companies continue to re-design their packaging and the demand for sharper, more aesthetically pleasing designs continue to rise, more companies are converting their traditional pressure sensitive labels into shrink sleeve labels. Shrink sleeves offer companies more flexibility in terms of design and makes the products stand out from the rest of the competition.
What are PVC and PETG?
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol-modified (PETG) are two commonly used shrink sleeve materials.
PVC – Easiest to control, generally the most cost effective and offers good scuff resistance. Unit cost is less and it works better on some applications than PETG. There are two types of PVC – high shrink PVC and standard PVC.
PETG – Offers the best scuff resistance, has highest percentage of shrink ability and easily recyclable. It’s also more stable and readily available. More customers are choosing PETG over PVC because it’s more readily available.
PLA – Polylactide, or Polylactic acid (a misnomer since PLA is not an acid), (PLA) is a biodegradable thermoplastic made from renewable resources. The fact that PLA is biodegradable has increased its popularity in recent years and in addition to its use as printed shrink sleeve labels, PLA has also been used as a loose-fill flexible packaging material
EPS Foam – Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is a recycle-able thermal plastic material. Though a light material, EPS is relatively strong mechanically for its lightness and has a high resistance to heat, making it an excellent insulator. EPS offers exceptional form fit product protection.
SHRINK SLEEVE APPLICATION PROCESS
Manual – In this process, custom printed shrink sleeve labels are manually applied to containers before shrinking. This method is ideal for short runs and sampling prototype programs.
Automatic – Through an automatic application process, conveyors and other assorted machines are used to slip the heat shrink film material over the containers and then process them through the heat-shrink area for the form-fit that shrink sleeves create.
SLEEVE TYPE
Clear – A translucent sleeve which can be printed on but will otherwise show through to the container, and if a clear container, the contents therein. This type of shrink sleeve is ideal if you would like to showcase your product.
White – The shrink sleeve applied to the container is a white opaque film. Still printable, this type of sleeve will give the impression that the area of the container where applied is white.
PEFORATIONS FOR SHRINK SLEEVES
None – There will be no perforations on your shrink sleeve, it will be a solid label for the type of label selected.
Vertical – There will be vertical perforations that will make it easy to tear the shrink sleeve apart. This perforation is commonly found on safety-seals, and can be used in conjunction with horizontal perforations to create an entirely removable tamper-evident band.
Horizontal – This type of perforation allows part of the shrink sleeve, such as a tamper-evident band, to be easily removed without damaging the rest of the label so your product identity stays in tact. This also gives customers piece of mind when purchasing a product so they know it has not been altered.
T-Perforation – The perforation is used as an “easy to remove” tamper evident band.
Printing Methods
Heat Shrink label films do not require pre-treatment for print adhesion, however the choice of ink system is important.
· Gravure printing is widely used because it allows you to print complex designs. It requires spirit ester inks, thinned with mixtures of ethyl acetate and alcohols.
· Flexographic printing is another option. Solvent-based inks require different ink resins, thinned with mixtures of ethyl acetate and alcohols. Water- or UV-based inks are applied directly to the film surface, after corona-treating the film prior to printing.
· Rotary offset printing uses paste UV inks consisting primarily of water and alcohol achieving high-quality resolution at high-speed output and low operational costs, after corona-treating the film prior to printing.
· Digital printing uses photographic quality images and is the ideal process for prototypes and short-run projects. It requires special coatings for ink adhesion.
· Drying Process has no draw back. Temperature settings depend on printing speed and the length of the drying zone.
Tube Forming
When it comes to tube forming, shrink-sleeve and roll-sleeve processes differ. In the roll-sleeve process, the tube is created on a roll-fed mandrill and seamed by hot-melt, solvent, heat-bar, or laser processes. The tube is created directly on the labeling line. In the shrink-sleeve process, the tube can be formed either by gluing the seam or by ultrasonic welding, but gluing is widely preferred because of its faster processing speed.
For the shrink-sleeve process, the best glue-solvent mixture depends on:
· Solvent application/machinery
· Production line parameters, such as speed, solvent quantity, etc.
· Polymer
· Temperature of film, solvent, and ambient temperature
Shrinking Process
The shrinking process can be controlled by a number of factors:
· Beam temperature of the infrared radiation in the tunnel
· Hot-air flow for hot-air tunnels
· Steam flow in the steam tunnel
· For best shrink results in steam tunnels, we recommend ~90°C [210°F] maximum

THE SHRINK SLEEVING SYSTEM SHRINK TUNNELS
The Shrink sleeving systems consist of three main components:
the shrink sleeve applicator (or shrink band applicator), the shrink tunnel and the conveyor.
The Shrink tunnels are a critical element in the process: on the market are available different kind of films with various shrinkage ratios, hence different shrink tunnels have been developed in order to respond to the different carachteristics of each film and kind of application. For example, last generation machines are flexible and able to handle thinner or sustainable and eco-friendly label materials without compromising the integraty of the materials.
While deciding which tunnel is the most appropriate for a certain sleeve application, is important to keep into consideration many factors, as: the film type used, the material of the container, if the container is sleeverd empty or full and what kind of product is inside, line speed, environmental and energy consumption concerns.
Based on this considerations, is possible to pick the best fitting choice among the available tunnel technologies: convective, infrared and steam.
Convective Tunnels
Hot air tunnels (also known as convective tunnels) are the most popular due to their ease of use. These tunnels utilize forced hot air to provide the heat energy required to complete the shrink process. The tunnel usually includes a fan of some type to force air through a heat source, resulting in a heated air stream. Many tunnels feature a recirculation system to pull the heated air back into the process, resulting in a more efficient tunnel. In some cases, industrial hot-air guns are used as the heat source and fan.
When using convective tunnels for labels, a multi-zone tunnel is recommended as it permits different temperatures to be used at different process stages. For most applications, it's best to start the shrink process at a lower temperature and finish at a higher temperature. The goal is to start the onset of the shrink process slowly to minimize distortion.
Hot air can be directed to specific areas of the film, which places the heat where and when it is needed in the shrink process. Hot air offers a more aggressive heat than steam, requiring a careful assessment of the packaging material's heat resistance. Hot air tunnels may have a larger footprint than steam tunnels, depending on the application.
Infrared Tunnels
Radiant heat tunnels (also known as infrared tunnels) utilize radiant heat to provide the energy required to complete the shrink process. These tunnels utilize various energy sources from quartz panels, tubes and, in some cases, standard calrod-style heating elements with reflectors.
Infrared tunnels normally are used in conjunction with other types of tunnels as a finishing unit. Infrared is similar to steam in that it provides a consistent temperature and a high heat energy transfer.
These tunnels are the most aggressive in terms of shrink and are ideal for neck bands on containers such as wine bottles. Radiant heat tunnels are used for fast shrink on packaging not affected by more robust heat.
Steam Tunnels
Steam tunnels provide the best results for most sleeve label applications. Steam tunnels offer the most uniform heat — 360° around the package — which means overall even shrinkage of the film. The benefit of steam is that the shrink process occurs at a low temperature, the temperature is consistent, and the heat energy transfer of steam is very high. Steam is recommended for most applications in which a sleeve is applied to a liquid filled container, especially glass.
Steam tunnels use live steam to provide the energy required to complete the shrink process. Most, if not all, steam tunnels require that a separate steam source be used to provide the steam to the tunnel.
Steam is also the least aggressive heat of the three tunnels. Steam tunnels are ideal for round, hourglass, and other non-straight sided packages for this reason — gentle, even, shrinkage. Steam tunnels are also used with containers under pressure, or when low flash point or flammability is a factor.
Environment and product assessments are necessary before specifying a steam tunnel. For example, PET packaging does extremely well in steam tunnels, however these tunnels are not suitable for every application. If the packaging line is in a cold environment, steam will not be applicable. Moreover, these type of tunnels can require a separate steam source and equipment to remove excess moisture and condensation from the area near the tunnel.
WHAT THICKNESS OF SHRINK FILM DO I NEED?
Shrink film is a popular packaging material used to wrap products for storage or shipment. Choosing the right thickness of shrink film is crucial to ensure proper packaging and protection of the product. In this guide, we will discuss the factors to consider when determining the appropriate thickness of shrink film to use.
Understanding Shrink Film Thickness
Shrink film thickness is typically measured in mils, which is equivalent to one-thousandth of an inch. A higher mil thickness indicates a thicker and stronger film. Shrink film is available in a range of thicknesses, from 40 gauge (0.4 mil) to 12 gauge (12 mil).
PVC Shrink Film
Factors to Consider when Determining Shrink Film Thickness
When determining the appropriate thickness of shrink film to use, several factors must be considered, including:
Product Size and Weight: The size and weight of the product being packaged will influence the thickness of shrink film required. Larger or heavier products require thicker and stronger film to provide adequate protection.
Shipping and Handling: Products that are shipped long distances or are subject to rough handling may require thicker film to provide additional protection during transport.
Storage Conditions: Products that are stored in harsh environments, such as extreme temperatures or high humidity, may require thicker film to provide added protection against damage.
Shrink Equipment: The type of shrink equipment used may also affect the thickness of shrink film required. For example, a heat tunnel may require a thicker film than a heat gun.
Shrink Film
Guidelines for Choosing Shrink Film Thickness
Based on the above factors, the following are general guidelines for selecting the appropriate thickness of shrink film:
40-60 Gauge (0.4-0.6 mil): Suitable for light-duty packaging of smaller and lighter products, such as CDs, DVDs, and small toys.
75-100 Gauge (0.75-1.0 mil): Suitable for medium-duty packaging of products that are slightly larger or heavier than those packaged with 40-60 gauge film. Examples include cosmetics, small electronics, and light tools.
125-150 Gauge (1.25-1.5 mil): Suitable for heavy-duty packaging of larger and heavier products, such as automotive parts, industrial equipment, and furniture.
200-250 Gauge (2.0-2.5 mil): Suitable for extra-heavy-duty packaging of products that are very large or heavy, such as large appliances, machinery, and construction materials.
Shrink Film
Other Factors to Consider
In addition to the product size and weight, shipping and handling, storage conditions, and shrink equipment, there are other factors to consider when choosing the appropriate thickness of shrink film:
Transparency: Some shrink films are more transparent than others. If the product needs to be visible through the film, a more transparent film may be required.
Barrier Properties: Some shrink films offer better barrier properties than others, providing protection against moisture, UV light, and other environmental factors. If the product requires additional protection, a film with better barrier properties may be necessary.
Environmental Impact: Some shrink films are more environmentally friendly than others. If sustainability is a concern, choosing a biodegradable or compostable film may be appropriate.
Shrink Film
Benefits of Choosing the Right Shrink Film Thickness
Choosing the appropriate thickness of shrink film offers several benefits, including:
Protection: The right film thickness will provide adequate protection to the product during storage and transport, reducing the risk of damage or loss.
Cost Savings: Choosing the appropriate film thickness will help avoid over-packaging, which can result in unnecessary costs.
Efficiency: The right film thickness will ensure efficient packaging and sealing, reducing the time and labor required for packaging.
Sustainability: Choosing an environmentally friendly film thickness can help reduce the environmental impact of packaging and contribute to a more sustainable supply chain

PRODUCTION PROCESS OF PETG HEAT SHRINKING FILM
The PETG Heat Shrinking Film production process is to dry the PET copolymer resin first, taking the production process of BOPET film as an example. Then, it is added to the extruder for melt extrusion, cold drum casting through a die, and then the slab is heated to a temperature above the glass transition temperature, below a melting temperature, and under the action of an external force, one-way or Stretching in a two-way multiple is usually required to perform a stretch of 3.5 to 4.0 times in the lateral direction. The PET macromolecular chain is oriented in the direction of the external force by stretching, and then cooled and shaped to "freeze" the oriented PET molecular structure. The high elastic deformation under the action of external force has a heat-shrinking memory effect. When the film with the "memory effect" is reheated above the stretching temperature, the macromolecular orientation structure is frozen and begins to relax. The PET film shrinks. It is worth mentioning that the heat shrinkage of this PET film is mainly contributed by the amorphous part of the orientation. This is why the copolymerized modified amorphous PET film (APET or PETG is heat shrinkable than the ordinary crystalline PETG Shrink Film For Label). Therefore, the purpose of greatly increasing the heat shrinkage rate of the film can be achieved by increasing the orientation of the amorphous region in the film. As mentioned above, the heat shrinkage rate of the conventional polyester film is only less than 30%, and copolymerization. The modified polyester has a heat shrinkage rate of up to 70% or more.
The pvc heat shrinkable film is originally produced by a secondary molding process, that is, the powder is once plasticized and granulated, and the secondary plasticized blown film is used. This method adds a sufficient amount of stabilizer and lubricant, so the production cost is high. In addition, because of a plasticization process, the product is contaminated during the production process, affecting the yield. With the development of China's plastics industry, the application of plastic products has penetrated into various fields, especially on packaging. Plastic products are replacing other packaging materials with their high quality and low price. Pvc heat shrinkable film has been widely used as packaging materials. The use of food, medicine, and daily necessities has increased dramatically.
WHAT YOU WANT TO KNOW: ABOUT PETG SHRINK FILM
PETG is a kind of non-crystalline copolyester, with the increase of CHDM in copolymer, the melting point decreases, the glass transition temperature rises, the crystallinity decreases, and finally the amorphous polymer is formed. Generally the content of CHDM in PETG is 30%-40% more suitable. It has good viscosity, transparency, color, chemical resistance, and stress whitening resistance. It can be quickly thermoformed or extruded and blow molded. Viscosity is better than acrylic (acrylic). Its products are highly transparent, with excellent impact resistance, especially suitable for molding thick-walled transparent products, and its processing and molding performance is excellent, and it can be designed in any shape according to the designer's intention. Machine finishing
Characteristics of PETG

INTRODUCTION OF PETG HEAT SHRINKING FILM
PET resin is a linear homopolymerized polyester obtained by condensation polymerization of a glycol (ethylene glycol, EG) and a dibasic acid (terephthalic acid, TPA), and the copolymerized polyester is an alcohol modified with an alcohol or an acid. There are PETG, PCTG and PCTA as well as degradable copolyesters.
PETG Heat Shrinking Film is a non-crystalline copolyester. In the production process, since a certain amount of ethylene glycol is replaced by 1,4-cyclohexane dimethanol (CHDM), crystallization can be prevented, thereby improving processing and transparency. Its products are highly transparent and excellent in impact resistance. It is especially suitable for forming thick-walled transparent products. It has excellent processing and forming properties and can be designed in any shape according to the designer's intention. It may use traditional extrusion, injection molding, blow molding and suction. Plastic molding methods can be widely used in the market of sheet, sheet, PETG Shrink Film For Label, bottle and profile, and its secondary processing performance is excellent, and it can be modified by conventional machining.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SHRINK AND STRETCH FILMS
Shrink film and stretch film are often confused because they look very similar and, as mentioned above, can both be made from PVC. However, they each behave very differently.
When PVC is used for shrink film applications, it is loosely placed over a single or multiple items, and when heated it shrinks around them to create a tight, tamper-resistant protective seal.
When PVC is used in stretch applications, it is formulated differently so that it can be stretched around items. Stretch film is commonly used for palletizing, or combining multiple items on a pallet to prevent them from moving during shipping. Stretch films are typically stretched about 100-300%, while shrink films are typically only stretched to about 50-75%.
Protection
The durability of shrink film allows you to protect and preserve the contents of your package. Cross-linked films are suitable for items with sharp edges because they have higher tear and puncture resistance, which reduces the chances of damage to the package during shipping. They are also a means of reducing tampering. If you are packaging thousands of items per day and using automatic or semi-automatic packaging machines, cross-linked shrink films will help reduce product damage and packaging waste. In addition, shrink films help extend the shelf life of perishable items and can hide the odor of package contents.
Advantages
Shrink films can add gloss to improve the visual appeal of your product packaging, and you can print high-quality graphics for highly desirable retail visibility. Polyolefin films are best suited for printing a variety of colors and designs to stylishly package your products or include nutritional information on the package.
Sustainability
One of the biggest advantages of PLA shrink films is that they are recyclable. As sustainability becomes increasingly important to consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies of all sizes, it is critical to use packaging materials that meet sustainability standards. In addition, PLA films do not release harmful vapors during the heat sealing process like PVC does.
Reduce costs
By taking advantage of the strength and durability of shrink film, many brands have been able to completely remove corrugated packaging from their multi-pack products. Without the need for corrugated pallets, heavy products can be securely wrapped in shrink wrap. Lightweight items (such as single-serve chips) can be packaged in plastic bags. This not only helps reduce packaging costs, but also minimizes your shelf footprint and frees up space in your facility.
With new technologies emerging almost daily, you can further optimize your packaging to reduce costs by downsizing or choosing smaller width films. If you work with a packaging specialist to conduct a film audit for your packaging line, you'll see what options are available to you. Contact HYF today to buy them and get yuor solutions.
BUYING GUIDE FOR PVC SHRINK FILM
PVC shrink film is a popular packaging material used to wrap and protect various products, including food items, consumer goods, and industrial products. It is a type of thermoplastic polymer that becomes soft and pliable when heated and can be stretched and molded to fit the shape of the item being packaged. PVC shrink film is commonly used for its durability, clarity, and cost-effectiveness. Here is a buying guide for PVC shrink film to help you choose the right type for your needs.
Gauge Thickness
The gauge thickness of PVC shrink film refers to its thickness and is measured in mils (thousandths of an inch). A higher gauge thickness indicates a thicker and more durable film. The thickness of PVC shrink film can range from 40 to 100 gauge, with 60 gauge being the most commonly used. The thicker the film, the stronger it is and the better it can protect the item being packaged. However, thicker films are also less flexible and more difficult to handle. For most applications, 60 gauge PVC shrink film is sufficient, but you should consider the type of product being packaged and the level of protection required before selecting the gauge thickness.
Width and Length
The width and length of PVC shrink film refer to the dimensions of the film roll. The width of PVC shrink film can range from 4 to 60 inches, while the length can range from 500 to 10,000 feet. The width of the film should be selected based on the size of the item being packaged, while the length should be selected based on the amount of film required for each packaging operation. For small items, a narrower film roll may be suitable, while larger items require wider films. The length of the roll will depend on the frequency of packaging and the amount of film required per packaging operation.
Shrink Percentage
The shrink percentage of PVC shrink film refers to the amount of shrinkage that occurs when the film is heated. PVC shrink film typically has a shrink percentage of 40% to 70%, with 60% being the most commonly used. The shrink percentage is an important factor to consider because it affects the fit and appearance of the package. A higher shrink percentage can result in a tighter and more uniform fit, while a lower shrink percentage may result in loose or uneven packaging. It is important to consider the type of product being packaged and the desired appearance of the package when selecting the shrink percentage.
Clarity
The clarity of PVC shrink film refers to its transparency and is an important factor to consider for products that require a clear and visible packaging. PVC shrink film is known for its excellent clarity, which allows the product to be easily seen by the consumer. However, the clarity can be affected by the thickness and quality of the film. Thicker films tend to be less clear than thinner films, while lower quality films may have a cloudy appearance. When selecting PVC shrink film, it is important to consider the desired level of clarity based on the product being packaged and the overall presentation of the package.
Strength and Durability
The strength and durability of PVC shrink film are important factors to consider for products that require a high level of protection during shipping and handling. PVC shrink film is known for its strength and durability, which helps to prevent damage to the product during transit. However, the strength and durability can be affected by the gauge thickness and quality of the film. Thicker films tend to be stronger than thinner films, while higher quality films are more durable than lower quality films. When selecting PVC shrink film, it is important to consider the level of protection required based on the product being packaged and the shipping and handling conditions.
ADVANTAGES AND PERFORMANCE OF PVC HEAT SHRINK FILM
PVC shrink film bag is the most commonly used heat shrink material in heat seal packaging. Through hot air blowing, the highly transparent heat shrink film can be tightly attached to the surface of the item, thus improving the product grade, dustproof and moisture-proof, and making the item present a new and perfect packaging effect.
Advantages of heat shrink film
Easy to use and high efficiency: Due to the use of green and environmentally friendly stretch film and pre-stretch technology, it is quite labor-saving to use, without the need for special packaging machines and special packaging sites.
At the same weight, the length of each roll of this environmentally friendly stretch film is more than twice the length of each roll of ordinary stretch film, which can reduce the frequency of changing film rolls during packaging and also save costs in transportation, packaging and distribution.
Due to the unique properties of PVC (rainproof, fireproof, anti-static, easy to mold) and the low input and high output of PVC, it is widely used in the building materials industry and packaging industry.
Heat shrinkable film has high transparency, good gloss and shrinkage. High rate and high characteristics.

DIFFERENCE OF PET, PETG, AND RPETG SHRINK FILM
PET is now increasingly used as a packaging material, not only for soda drink bottles, but also for non-crystalline PET, crystalline PET cans and sheets. In the last five years, engineering grade PET and copolymers have been used as new polymer products for engineering and specialty packaging materials, respectively.
HYF is a professional manufacturer of PETG shrink film, and we would like to introduce you the difference between PET/PETG/RPETG shrink film.
PETG
PETG copolyester is another example of one of the many copolyesters. Unlike PCTA, which is modified with acid, PETG is a diol-modified polymer consisting of CHDM diol combined with TPA and ethylene glycol. PETG copolyester can be molded or extruded and usually retains its amorphous nature, transparency, and is virtually colorless even in very large cross-sections.
It has high stiffness, hardness and good toughness, even at low temperatures. PETG can be extruded and blow molded at melt temperatures of 400-450F to make clear bottles for shampoos, liquid detergents, hygiene products, mineral oils and food packaging. This material meets FDA standards for food contact.
RPETG
Like regular PETG shrink film, it is primarily used to make shrink sleeve labels (shrink labels). No changes are required in the use process, including printing methods, inks, glues and sleeves. In addition to all the advantages and performance of ordinary PETG shrink film, it is more environmentally friendly by reducing CO2 emissions. One bottle of recycled product can make 10 shrink labels.
RPETG shrink film can be used for shrink labels in different fields such as: food, beverage, craft beer, wine and spirits, nutritional products, private label, household products, personal care, automotive, etc.
PET
PET's successful use in soda beverage packaging materials is due to its toughness and clarity, orientation capabilities, excellent economic value and the development of high-speed bottle processing technology. PET beverage cans are lightweight, shatter resistant, reusable and have very good air tightness, making them labor, energy and cost saving at all stages from producer to consumer.
PET copolymer crystallizes slowly, which allows it to produce high-quality soda drink bottles under a wide range of processing conditions. An extrusion blow moldable polymer is also available. This material combines excellent melt strength with a slow crystallization rate that can be easily processed on suitable extrusion blow molding equipment.
Other end uses for PET are for extrusion coating and extrusion molding of films and sheets. PET is used as an extrusion coating material for bakeable cardboard packaging, and crystalline PET (CPET) can also be used as a base material for making sheets in ovens.
If you want to buy film shrink sleeves, please send us a message, we also have PLA film and PVC film for sale.

In this article, we will discuss how to shrink PVC film using a heat gun.
Choose the Right Heat Gun
A heat gun is an essential tool for shrinking PVC film. Heat guns are available in different sizes and wattages. For shrinking PVC film, you need a heat gun with a wattage of at least 1500W. This will provide enough heat to shrink the PVC shrink film quickly and effectively.
Prepare the Work Area
Before you start shrinking the PVC shrink film, you need to prepare the work area. Make sure you have a flat and clean surface to work on. It is also essential to ensure that the area is well-ventilated to prevent the buildup of fumes from the PVC shrink film.
PVC Shrink Film
Unroll the PVC shrink Film
Once you have prepared the work area, unroll the PVC shrink film to the desired length. It is essential to make sure that the PVC shrink film is free from any wrinkles or creases before you begin to shrink it.
Hold the Heat Gun at the Right Angle
Hold the heat gun at a 45-degree angle to the PVC shrink film, and keep it moving in a back-and-forth motion. This will ensure that the heat is evenly distributed across the PVC shrink film. Do not hold the heat gun too close to the PVC shrink film, as this can cause the film to melt or burn.
Apply Heat to the PVC Film
Start at one end of the PVC shrink film and apply heat to the surface using the heat gun. Move the heat gun back and forth across the PVC shrink film, making sure to cover the entire surface evenly. As the PVC shrink film heats up, it will start to shrink.
PVC Shrink Film
Use a Squeegee to Smooth the Surface
As the PVC film shrinks, use a squeegee to smooth the surface. This will ensure that the film remains flat and does not form any wrinkles or creases. Start at one end of the PVC shrink film and work your way to the other end, using the squeegee to smooth out any bumps or bubbles.
Repeat the Process as Needed
If the PVC shrink film has not shrunk to the desired size, repeat the process until it has shrunk to the desired size. However, be careful not to overheat the PVC shrink film, as this can cause it to shrink too much or even melt.
Cut the PVC Film to Size
Once the PVC shrink film has shrunk to the desired size, cut it to the desired length using a sharp knife or scissors. Make sure to cut the PVC shrink film evenly to ensure that it is the right size for your needs.
PVC Shrink Film
Store the PVC Film
After you have shrunk and cut the PVC shrink film, it is ready for storage. Store the PVC shrink film in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. This will help to preserve the quality of the film and prevent it from becoming brittle over time.
In conclusion, shrinking PVC shrink film using a heat gun is a straightforward process that can help you to reduce the size of your PVC shrink film rolls. However, it is essential to take the necessary precautions to ensure that you do not overheat or damage the PVC shrink film. By following these steps, you can shrink PVC film quickly and effectively, making it easier to handle, store, and transport.

WHAT IS PLA SHRINK FILM?
PLA shrink film is a type of biodegradable and compostable plastic film made from polylactic acid (PLA), a biopolymer derived from renewable resources such as cornstarch or sugarcane. This film is commonly used in the packaging industry for wrapping, bundling, and protecting various types of products.
Shrink film is a type of plastic film that shrinks when exposed to heat, creating a tight and conforming seal around the product. This can help protect the product from external elements such as moisture, dust, and insects, as well as improve the overall appearance of the package. Shrink film is commonly used in food packaging, electronics, cosmetics, and other industries.
PLA shrink film is a sustainable alternative to traditional shrink films made from petroleum-based plastics. These conventional shrink films are not biodegradable and can take hundreds of years to break down in the environment, contributing to pollution and environmental degradation. In contrast, PLA shrink film can be composted and biodegraded within a few months, reducing the environmental impact and improving sustainability.
PLA Shrink Film
One of the main benefits of PLA shrink film is its biodegradability and compostability. This means that the film can break down naturally into non-toxic components when disposed of properly, without releasing harmful chemicals or microplastics into the environment. PLA shrink film is also certified by various organizations such as the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) and the European Bioplastics Association (EUBP), ensuring that it meets certain standards for biodegradability and compostability.
Another benefit of PLA shrink film is its versatility and compatibility with a wide range of packaging applications. PLA shrink film can be used to wrap and protect a variety of products, including food, beverages, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and electronics. The film can be printed on using standard printing technologies, allowing for customization and branding opportunities. PLA shrink film can also be used in combination with other materials such as paper and cardboard to create hybrid packaging solutions that offer both sustainability and functionality.
PLA shrink film also has good mechanical properties, such as high tensile strength, puncture resistance, and durability. This means that the film can withstand the stresses and strains of the packaging and transportation process, ensuring that the product inside is well-protected. The film also has good optical properties, such as high transparency and gloss, which can enhance the product's appearance and visibility on the shelf.
PLA Shrink Film
However, there are also some challenges and limitations to consider when using PLA shrink film. One of the main challenges is its high cost compared to traditional shrink films. PLA shrink film is currently more expensive to produce due to the higher cost of raw materials and manufacturing processes. This can make it less attractive to some businesses, especially those with tight profit margins.
Another challenge is the limited heat stability of PLA shrink film compared to traditional shrink films. PLA shrink film requires a lower temperature and shorter exposure time to heat in order to shrink properly. This can make it more challenging to work with for some packaging applications that require higher temperatures or longer exposure times.
In addition, there is still some debate and uncertainty around the environmental impact and sustainability of PLA shrink film. While the film is biodegradable and compostable, there are concerns about the amount of energy and resources required to produce it, as well as the potential for contamination of composting facilities if the film is not properly disposed of.
Overall, PLA shrink film is a promising alternative to traditional shrink films that offers improved sustainability and functionality for a wide range of packaging applications. However, its higher cost and limited heat stability may limit its adoption in some industries and applications, and more research is needed to fully understand its environmental impact and sustainability.

WHAT KIND OF CLING FILM DO YOU USE?
Just bought vegetables and fruits, eat leftovers, in the refrigerator before they will be covered with a layer of plastic wrap. This not only does not string taste, but also more hygienic, and at the same time, the cling film has a great role in extending the freshness of food. That's why we need to use plastic wrap every day in our home life.
Material of cling film
Don't look at the cling film look similar, but in fact, the material is very different. Cling film materials can be divided into polyethylene (PE film), polyvinyl chloride (PVDC film), polymethylpentene (PMP film), polyvinyl chloride (PVC film) four, different materials of cling film in safety, heat resistance and other aspects are completely different.
1, polyethylene is a thermoplastic resin made of ethylene by polymerization. In industry, it also includes copolymers of ethylene and a small amount of alpha-olefins. Polyethylene is odorless, non-toxic, feels like wax, has excellent low temperature resistance (the lowest use temperature can reach -100 ~ -70 ° C), good chemical stability, can resist the erosion of most acids and bases (not resistant to acids with oxidizing properties). Insoluble in general solvents at room temperature, small water absorption, excellent electrical insulation.
2, polyvinyl chloride: PVC is a polymer made by polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer under the action of peroxide, azo compounds and other initiators or free radical polymerization reaction mechanism by light and heat. Vinyl chloride homopolymer and vinyl chloride copolymer are collectively called vinyl chloride resin.
3, polyvinylidene chloride: polyvinylidene chloride referred to as PVDC, homopolymer and copolymer of vinylidene chloride is customarily referred to as Sharon resin, its commercial polymer is vinylidene chloride and vinyl chloride, acrylate or acrylic copolymer. The choice of copolymer monomer has a great impact on the nature of copolymers, the form of copolymers should be based on melt processing, solution coating, dispersion coating and other processing methods to determine.
Can I use plastic bags instead of plastic wrap?
The answer is not feasible. Cling film is not completely closed, but has a certain degree of breathability, to prevent the reproduction of bacteria, so as to achieve the role of preservation. And the breathability of plastic bags is very poor, if used to preserve the fruit with high moisture content, it is easy to lead to lack of oxygen and accelerate the speed of corruption. Therefore, plastic bags cannot be used instead of cling film.
HYF has been serving clients all across Europe, offering high quality films and the most recent product innovations in the shrink sleeve packaging, pharmaceutical industries and biodegradable materials.
WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE BIODEGRADABLE PLASTIC PRODUCTS?
The reason why plastic bags are called white pollution is because people's environmental awareness was weak in the past, China's waste classification policy is unclear, once the cost of non-degradable plastic bags is very low, a variety of places almost free to provide, the supply exceeds the demand, people use up and give up, can not be specifically recycled. Therefore, a spring breeze, there are plastic bags everywhere, white plastic bags more, known as white pollution.
If the plastic bags we use are biodegradable plastic bags, this problem will not occur. Environmental protection and complete dissolution are the greater features of our products. The products rely on our self-developed natural plastic technology, using polycarbonate PLA/PBAT as the base material (raw materials can be straw, coffee grounds, bamboo fiber, palm silk, tea leaves, etc., which can be customized at will), and using the production technology of chemical branch modification to make the products.

What are the benefits of using biodegradable plastics?
1. Relief of land resources
The history of mankind, plastic bags are too convenient and good to use, leading to people have been inseparable from plastic bags in their daily lives. The convenience of plastic bags has led people to forget that the original invention of plastic bags is not a disposable item, often used once and then thrown away. But many people do not know that the production of plastic bags is the main raw material is polyethylene, it is very difficult to degrade, a large number of discarded plastic bags are buried in the ground, it will lead to a large area of land because of the burial of plastic bags and long-term occupation, which is the "white pollution". When people use plastic bags for biodegradable plastic bags, this problem will be solved. Compared with the original polyethylene plastic bags degradation is very difficult, biodegradable plastic bags only need a few months to complete the degradation, so a greater degree to alleviate the waste of land resources.
2. Reduce carbon emissions
Biodegradable plastic bags compared to traditional plastic bags is another point worthy of praise, that is, carbon dioxide emissions. Biodegradable plastic in the process of degradation of carbon dioxide released less than traditional plastic, because biodegradable plastic bags are not produced by polyethylene, it is about 2 kg less than the traditional plastic release of carbon dioxide.
3. Reduce energy consumption
Plastic bags in the production process will consume fossil fuels, while biodegradable plastic bags will reduce almost half of the fossil fuels than it. For example, if all plastic products worldwide are replaced with biodegradable plastic bags in a year, then this year almost 1.3 billion barrels of fossil fuels can be saved, this amount of savings accounts for almost part of the global fossil fuel consumption.
Plastic bags may be a "necessity" in people's daily lives, but biodegradable plastic bags can turn them into replaceable items. Biodegradable plastic bags are essential to making the environment a better place to live.
HYF offers complete solutions tailored on the individual customer requirements and we represent the most important world leading producers of plastic films.
What is the Material of Beverage Bottle Label?
The food industry is developing rapidly, especially beverages. With the rapid development of the beverage market, the heat shrink film labels for beverage bottles are naturally getting hotter and hotter. Today HYF will analyze the heat-shrink film labels for everyone.
Heat shrink film labels commonly used materials.

5 ADVANTAGES OF USING PLA SHRINK FILM
If you're looking for shrink film for your project, then it's time to consider PLA shrink film, a compostable bioplastic made from renewable materials rather than petrochemicals, which has a very high shrinkage rate and requires less heat to shrink, while offering similar properties to other films during processing. This article discusses 5 advantages of PLA shrink film to help you better understand PLA shrink film.
PLA Shrink Film
Environmentally friendly
PLA is a bio-based plastic that differs from most thermoplastic polymers because it is derived from renewable resources such as corn starch or sugar cane. Most plastics, on the other hand, are derived from the distillation and polymerization of non-renewable petroleum reserves. In contrast, the reduced reliance on petroleum-based products makes PLA seem environmentally friendly.
Degradable
PLA is biodegradable and has similar properties to polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), or polystyrene (PS).
Compostable
PLA is a compostable plastic. Compostable plastics are a new generation of plastics that can be degraded by composting. They are usually derived from renewable raw materials such as starch, cellulose, soy protein or lactic acid. They are not dangerous to produce and break down back into carbon dioxide, water and biomass when composted.
Non-toxic
PLA is non-toxic and it is often used in food handling and medical implants, biodegrading in the body over time. However, PLA, like most plastics, has the potential to be toxic if inhaled as a vapor or liquid and/or absorbed by the skin or eyes.
Cost-effectiveness
PLA can be produced using existing production equipment. This makes it cost-effective to produce. And PLA is the second most productive of all bioplastics, with high yields.

WHY SHOULD WE USE SHRINK WRAP?
Shrink wrap holds items together and protects them from dust and weathering. You can wrap it around anything and then heat the film to create a tight-fitting, self-sealing package. Shrink wrap offers a wide range of benefits to our work.
Durability
The durability of shrink wrap allows you to protect and preserve the contents of your package. PVC is the traditional choice for packaging CDs, software boxes, and office supplies.
Protective effect
When heat is applied to the shrink wrap, it creates a very tight seal. This plastic seal then completely protects the contents of the shrink wrap. Once sealed, these items are no longer susceptible to damage caused by dust, dirt, or moisture.
Some types of shrink wrap even offer UV protection to protect your packages from the sun's harmful rays. In addition, shrink films help extend the shelf life of perishable items and can hide the odor of package contents.
Tamper Resistant
Because shrink wraps seal and retains their shape once applied, any tampering is immediately noticeable. For this reason, many pharmaceutical companies as well as food manufacturers are now shrink-wrapping their products. Certain types of shrink wrap used by banks and government agencies change color when the plastic is stretched to indicate that the sealed item has been touched.
Convenience
Shrink wrap is one of the few packaging materials that is suitable for items of any size. Candy and hardware can be strapped and shrink-wrapped. Trailer and train loads can be shrink-wrapped for easy transport.
Branding
Shrink packaging can be designed with colors, text, images, and logos to promote your product. It's a marketing tool that increases brand awareness and makes you more visible to your customers.
Preservation
Many foods that need to be preserved, either for shipping or to extend shelf life, are kept in shrink wrap.
Reduce Costs
By taking advantage of the strength and durability of shrink wrap, many brands have been able to completely remove corrugated packaging from their multi-pack products. Lightweight items (such as single-serve chips) can be packaged in plastic bags. This not only helps reduce packaging costs but also minimizes your shelf footprint and frees up space in your facility.
Shrink-wrapping is more helpful than you might think, and it can take your work to a whole new level. So, if you're not already using shrink wrap, why not start today?

POLYLACTIC ACID (PLA)-IS IT REALLY ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY?
Read our PLA bioplastics guide to learn all about PLA material, including how it is produced, the environmental and economic advantages of PLA, and how it fits into the circular economy.
PLA
What are PLA bioplastics?
Polylactic acid (PLA) is a polyester derived from renewable biomass, usually from fermented plant starches such as corn, sugar cane, or sugar beet pulp. the environmental advantages of PLA bioplastics over derived plastics are measurable and significant.
How PLA is produced?
PLA is a polyester (a polymer containing an ester group) made from lactic acid and propylene glycol. Lactic acid can be produced by bacterial fermentation of a carbohydrate source under controlled conditions. In industrial-scale production of lactic acid, the carbohydrate source can be corn starch, cassava root, or sugar cane, making the process sustainable and renewable. In addition, the agricultural products themselves, such as stems, straw, husks, and crop residues such as leaves, can be processed and used as alternative carbohydrate sources. Residues that cannot be fermented can be used as a heat source to reduce the use of fossil fuel-derived hydrocarbons.
Environmental Advantages of PLA
PLA is a more environmentally friendly plastic option than conventional plastics. This is because PLA can biodegrade in 12 weeks under commercial composting conditions, whereas conventional plastics can take centuries to break down and eventually produce microplastics.
The manufacturing process for PLA is also more environmentally friendly than conventional plastics. According to studies, the carbon emissions associated with PLA production are 80 percent lower than those of conventional plastics.
PLA can be recycled because it can be broken down into its original monomers through a thermal depolymerization process or hydrolysis. The result is that the monomer solution can be purified and used in subsequent PLA production without any loss of quality.
Disadvantages of PLA
PLA has many advantages, but also some disadvantages. These include the environmental impact on land and water, rather than the cultivation of crops and the use of chemical fertilizers.
In addition, PLA plastic packaging can be more expensive than traditional plastic packaging due to the number of steps required in the production process. However, as PLA becomes more widely available, efficiencies of scale come into play, which means costs can be reduced.
The production of PLA bioplastics has little to no impact on food prices or availability. And it enables a true recycling option, from plant to soil.
HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT SHRINK WRAP?
Bringing products to consumers is an outstanding experience thanks to the flexibility, durability, and other valuable benefits of shrink wrap. With just one roll of the right shrink film and a heating source, you have all the tools you need to weatherproof and tamper-proof your products. This guide will provide you with all the information you need to know about what shrink film is, shrink film features, commonly used shrink films, and more.
PVC Shrink Film
What is Shrink Film?
Shrink film (also known as shrink wrap) is a versatile polymer material used in the packaging of finished products. By applying heat to the film, it catalyzes the film to shrink tightly around the item in which it is placed. When properly cooled, the film will remain in this state. Shrink film thus creates a clear, long-lasting protective barrier around the product.
Characteristics of Shrink Film
The 6 characteristics of shrink film are detailed below. These are important considerations when using them for product packaging.
Shrink Force
Shrink force usually tells you the amount of force the shrink film will exert on your product. Shrink force plays an important role when you are wrapping multiple items and require them to be undamaged. This is especially true when you are wrapping a small stack of paper or lightweight cardboard boxes.
Shrink Orientation
Shrink films are biaxially oriented and preferentially oriented. Biaxially oriented films shrink equally in both directions. Preferentially oriented films shrink differently in both directions. The advantage of preferentially oriented films is that less film can be used to prevent product distortion.
Moisture transmission rate
Low moisture transmission into and out of the package is important and you should be aware of this feature to extend shelf life.
Anti-fogging
Anti-fog films are used for food products to reduce moisture buildup on the film. Moisture can create a fog that can interfere with viewing the product through the film.
Puncture and tear resistance
This measures how difficult it is to actually break the film, and how difficult it is to tear the film after it has been punctured. Typically, films with high puncture resistance are less resistant to tearing. If you need to make this trade-off, choose the more important characteristic. Choose a shrink film that balances product security with easy access to the actual product. Be sure to store shrink wrap in a cool storage area to prevent the film from weakening before use.
Odors
Odor barrier films are used to prevent unacceptable odors from entering or leaving your package. Don't disappoint your customers after they have purchased a product with an unpleasant odor.
PVC Shrink Film
PVC shrink-wrap films
Polyvinyl chloride is the most common shrink-wrap material used to protect retail and shipping products.
Rigid forms of PVC are durable and can be used in applications such as construction projects and household products. In packaging, PVC is suitable for both rigid and flexible structures.
PVC is utilized in many applications in the building and construction industry as well as in the healthcare, electronics, and automotive industries. It is used in products ranging from pipes and siding to blood bags and tubing, wire and cable insulation, windshield system components, blister packaging, flip-tops, and more. applications for PVC shrink film include packaging for CDs and DVDs, game and software boxes, and other non-edible items.
However, PVC has significant drawbacks. PVC becomes brittle at certain low temperatures and wrinkles at certain high temperatures. It's tear resistance when punctured is high, but its puncture resistance is low.
Shrink film adds gloss to enhance the visual appeal of your product packaging, and you can print high-quality graphics for highly desirable retail visibility. You can always contact us for a free quote on shrink film.
Types of Shrink Sleeves for Product Packaging
Custom shrink sleeves are one of the most popular types of product packaging. Using a shrink sleeve for your product has several benefits:
● 360 degree artwork, which maximizes your promotional and branding opportunities
● Flexibility, with the ability to conform to almost any glass, plastic or metal container
● The ability to bundle multiple items together as a promotional or bulk packaging tool
There are four main types of custom sleeve packaging. Knowing the differences between the four types will help you choose the right one for your project goals.
Standard Shrink Sleeve
PARTIAL SLEEVE LABELS
Standard shrink sleeves partially cover the product packaging, but do not have a tamper-evident seal to cover the cap. These sleeves work for virtually any product type and any container made of metal, glass or plastic and can include a full-length zippered perforation for easy recycling. Custom shrink sleeve labels can help you save in warehousing costs, particularly when it comes to labeling different varieties of the same product. For example, rather than warehousing several different containers, custom shrink sleeves allow you to house just one type of container and add different labels as needed.
Full-Body Shrink Sleeve
FULL SLEEVE LABELS
As the name implies, full-body shrink sleeves fully encompass the entire surface area of the product packaging, including the cap. This creates the opportunity for businesses to showcase their branding in full HD style with vivid graphics and color management. Full sleeve labels provide a tamper-evident seal for consumer safety and can also include a full-length zippered perforation for easy recycling and simplified removal of the shrink sleeve product packaging.
Shrink Bands
TAMPER-EVIDENT NECK BAND
The smallest type of shrink sleeve label, shrink bands work to create a tamper-evident seal around the cap to ensure customer safety and security of purchase, sometimes utilizing zippered perforation. Businesses can put their logo, instructions, or other graphics on custom printed shrink bands, providing an additional branding opportunity.
Combination Packaging
MULTI-PACK SLEEVES
Combination packaging shrink sleeves allow you to bundle several different types of the same package together. They are beneficial for running multi-pack promotions or for letting a customer save money by buying in bulk. Other potential applications include adding free samples of products, including “bonus gift with purchase” items or bundling less popular items from the warehouse to sell them faster.

No matter which type of sleeve you end up going with, it’s crucial you have the correct equipment to apply the shrink to your product. Unlike traditional pressure sensitive labels that have an adhesive backing and are applied to your product via pressure, sleeve labels don’t use adhesive and are instead shrunk onto containers using mechanical shrinking equipment such as a heat shrink tunnel or steam tunnel. The shrink sleeve application process can require a significant in-house cost investment up front, so finding a co-packer that specializes in applying shrink sleeves is another option if you want to outsource the shrinking process instead.

What is PLA?
What is PLA?
PLA is 100% bisourced and biodegradable, one of the first renewable polymers to compete with traditional polymers in terms of performance and environmental impact! Because it emits three times less C02 emissions and is already on the market, PLA could very well reconcile plastic with the planet. Here’s everything you need to know about this bioplastic.
Polylactic acid to those in the know
The abbreviation PLA comes from polylactic acid.
Chemist Théophile-Jules Pelouze first synthesised PLA in 1845. In 1954, the chemical company Dupont patented an industrial synthesis process. Learn about the history of plastic in 15 key dates. In the 1960s and ’70s, this polymer was used in biomedical applications because it could degrade under physiological conditions. Because PLAs is non-toxic and biocompatible, it’s often used to make biodegradable suture strings and implants for sustained drug release.
In the 1990s, PLA expanded into other uses. The company Cargill developed a ring-opening polymerisation (ROP) process that allowed it to synthesise high-molecular-weight PLA (called PPLA) on an industrial scale (sold in pellet form). Thanks to its mechanical properties and biodegradability, PLA can replace non-biodegradable polymers such as PET and polystyrene.
Researchers have since discovered even better ways to design PLA and create formulations for specific applications.
PLA: a biosourced and biodegradable bioplastic!
PLA is a bioplastic that is both biosourced AND biodegradable, whereas most bioplastics are either biosourced OR biodegradable, but rarely both at once!
PLA is classified as a 100% biosourced plastic: it’s made of renewable resources such as corn or sugar cane. Lactic acid, obtained by fermenting sugar or starch, is then transformed into a monomer called lactide. This lactide is then polymerised to produce PLA.
PLA is also biodegradable since it can be composted. However, its compostability had until recently been limited since it required constant high temperatures, meaning it could only be composted in industrial plants. Furthermore, the time it took to disintegrate meant it could only be used to produce thin films with a limited quantity of PLA (and therefore few biosourced components). This problem has now been entirely resolved thanks to Evanesto®, the first additive that has allowed PLA-rich plastics to obtain the OK HOME certification from the Tüv Austria organisation. This additive allows microorganisms in the compost to assimilate PLA more quickly and easily, ensuring that plastic packaging and products (even rigid ones) can be added to home composters along with food scraps and other kinds of biowaste.
A growing field of application!
PLA resins can be used without major adjustments to the plastics industry’s existing tools: a significant advantage that means the entire sector can now use PLA.
PLA is a transparent and rigid polyester at room temperature, seting it apart from other compostable and biosourced resins currently on the market. PLA has a transparent and shiny appearance similar to glass, is easy to print on, is resistant to fats and many organic compounds and solvents, and has intermediate barrier properties like polystyrene. PLA can therefore replace fossil-based products in many applications.
Because PLA is safe to use with food, it’s most commonly found in this sector (bags, pots, capsules, packaging, tea bags, etc.). But it’s expanding to an increasing variety of applications: in the home (floor and wall coatings, curtains, protections, textiles, bin bags, vacuum cleaner bags, toys, electronic appliances, wipes, nappies, etc.), electronics (smartphone protection, computers), various types of packaging, hygiene (wipes, nappies), agriculture (pots, films, strain, clips, etc.), cars (dashboards, trims), and industry (poly bags, blisters, bubble wrap, etc.).
PLA has quickly become the most common filament in 3D printing. PLA’s biodegradability fits perfectly with the spirit of 3D printing (producing the strict minimum, on-demand, onshoring). In addition, 3D printing filaments are often made of PLA because of its thermal and mechanical properties.
The future belongs to PLA
Driven by strong demand, the bioplastics market keeps increasing and is expected to grow between 10 and 15% per year by 2025 (and the good news is that it won’t compete with human or animal food production). PLA is 100% biosourced and biodegradable, one of the first renewable polymers to compete with traditional polymers in terms of performance and environmental impact! This is why its production has continued to increase since 2001.
There are now two main global producers of PLA: NatureWorks LLC and Total Corbion PLA. To respond to this market growth, the joint-venture Total Corbion PLA, created in 2017 by Total and the Dutch company Corbion (a lactic acid specialist), started up production of a new PLA range under the brandname Luminy® in 2018. This PLA is be made from GMO-free sugar cane at its plant in Rayong, Thailand (which has a name plate capacity of 75,000 tonnes per year). Total Corbion PLA is also planning to start up production at its Grandpuits site in France in 2024 (name plate capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year).
Other companies are also emerging in this field: in Asia, the joint-venture Anhui BBCA & Galactic (with an annual capacity of 40,000 tonnes); PLA NEO Futurroqui, which is planning to produce 100,000 tonnes by 2024, as is PLA ZERO (based in South America). This means that within the next four years, companies will be able to produce 600,000 tonnes of PLA per year, enough to meet the needs of many markets.
An effective solution to fight against pollution from useful plastic
It remains hard to replace plastic in certain cases. This observation is shared by the Citizens’ Climate Convention in France, which states that “packaging remains necessary for many products for health reasons or to ensure product quality.” Compostable plastic, and therefore PLA, is an alternative that will allow us to keep using plastic, all while protecting the planet.
In June 2020, the Citizens’ Climate Convention recommended “establishing mechanisms to promote the use of biosourced materials that can be composted and even—over time—fully biodegraded.”
Though you may not have known about PLA before reading this article, you’re likely to use it (and compost it) every day very soon!
BENEFITS OF FLEXIBLE FILM
The use of flexible films is growing in almost every industry, and businesses can benefit from them more than ever. Here are five reasons why it's worth choosing.
flexible films
1. Customizable
Flexible films are touted for their ability to be customized to the specifics of the product being packaged. Regardless of shape, size, or visual needs, the solution gives you the flexibility to tailor your packaging to your unique specifications and market objectives.
Customization elements also extend to visual attributes, including clarity, gloss, and printability. It allows you to truly showcase your product and brand in an eye-catching way. Some shrink film formulations are ideal for packaging meat or frozen foods because they reinforce the barrier to reduce mist or moisture transfer.
2. Reusable
As consumers increasingly seek options that offer greater convenience, reusable bags attract more opportunities for sales. It further enhances the market appeal.
3. Versatile
The versatility of packaging solutions is key. Flexible packaging films are designed with numerous product requirements and practicalities in mind. There are options that prioritize durability and tear resistance, safe distribution and storage, freshness and food safety, and protection from environmental factors such as temperature, light, moisture, and gas. Flexible films help extend the shelf life of perishable items and can mask the odor of package contents.
4. Environmentally friendly
As sustainability becomes increasingly important to consumer packaged goods (CPG) businesses of all sizes, it is critical to use packaging materials that meet sustainability standards. Efforts are underway to create a compostable, biodegradable plastic alternative with a long life span, and the recyclability, sustainability, and waste reduction associated with flexible film options can increase the appeal of products to consumers.
5. Economic benefits
Because a flexible film can be customized to the specific dimensions of your product, there is no need to use more material than is absolutely necessary. It can conform to your goods and provide a higher product-to-package ratio, which has the potential to reduce your manufacturing costs. Flexible use of flexible packaging films can help simplify your packaging system, for example by eliminating the cost of labeling or capping.
In addition, using high-quality film can reduce the need for additional packaging elements such as corrugated pallets, and the corresponding costs.

WHAT ARE PLA FILM ENVIRONMENTAL PLASTICIZERS?
What is PLA?
Polylactic acid (PLA) is an ecological bioplastic that can be used to obtain "green" materials for food packaging.PLA is a thermoplastic polymer with a glass transition temperature of approximately 60°C. In addition, it has good gas barrier properties, is non-toxic, biodegradable, biocompatible, and is approved by It is non-toxic, biodegradable, biocompatible, and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As a result, PLA is considered an environmentally friendly alternative to PET.
PLA Film
Properties of PLA
Mechanical Properties
These properties are important for applications in food packaging and are often considered indicators of plasticization-induced changes. Such results can be readily observed when plasticizers are added to the polymer, as they penetrate between the polymer chains and reduce the forces that lead to the overall cohesion of the polymer.
Low oxygen permeability
The reduction in this property makes the system more suitable for food packaging.
Processability
Due to its semi-crystalline structure, PLA exhibits a high melt viscosity, which makes it difficult to process. In general, all plasticizers used to improve the processability of PLA, a result that can be explained by the good miscibility of the components.
The contact angle of water
The addition of plasticizers in PLA affects the wettability of the final material. For example, pure PLA has a highly hydrophobic surface, but often the presence of plasticizers helps to increase its hydrophilicity
For example, pure PLA has a highly hydrophobic surface, but the presence of plasticizers usually helps to increase its hydrophilicity.
Transparency
A 0.5mm thick film of PLA with full plasticizers maintains the same good transparency as pure PLA.
Is PLA environmentally friendly?
PLA production uses 65% less energy than the production of conventional plastics, produces 68% fewer greenhouse gases, and contains no toxins. It can also remain environmentally friendly if proper end-of-life protocols are followed.
PLA currently has four common end-of-life scenarios.
1. Recycling
The scrap may contain contaminants, but PLA can be chemically recycled by thermal depolymerization or hydrolysis to form a monomer that can then be made into virgin PLA. PLA can also be chemically recycled by an ester exchange reaction to produce methyl lactate.
2. Composting
Industrial composting conditions allow for chemical hydrolysis followed by microbial digestion to degrade PLA.
3. Incineration
End-of-life PLA can be incinerated, and PLA is 100% combustible, so clean energy can be obtained from the waste.
4. Landfill
Although PLA can enter landfills, this is the least environmentally friendly option because the material degrades very slowly at ambient temperatures.
PETG FILM AND PVC FILM: WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCE?
PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol) is a polyester series of amorphous plastic resins. The heat-shrinkable film produced by PETG is a high-density film with a high strength ratio and excellent clarity. The PETG Shrink film is suitable for all kinds of printing technologies from ROTOGRAVURE to FLEXO PRESS using solvent based to UV-cured ink. Its inherent shrink characteristics allow covering almost all the containers with contoured shapes arriving at 78% shrink in the transverse direction without having any contraction in the longitudinal direction avoiding also the problematic “smile effect” on the bottom side of the containers, which makes it a popular choice for many applications.
PETG Shrink film
Polyvinyl Chloride, PVC shrink film shrinks at low temperatures while maintaining its high density. PVC is the most commonly used material. It has good clarity, shrinks at multiple temps, and is very weather resistant. It is also the easiest to control during the process of shrinking while staying scuff-resistant. PVC shrink film is made of ethylene-method PVC resin mixed with more than a dozen accessories and then inflated twice. It is characterized by good transparency, easy shrinkage, high strength, a shrinkage rate that can be freely adjusted according to user needs, and strong operability! It is also relatively inexpensive and easy to work with, which makes it a popular choice for many applications.
PVC shrink film
There are several differences between PETG film and PVC film:
PETG film and PVC film are both types of film that are commonly used for a variety of applications. However, there are some key differences between the two that may make one more suitable for a particular application than the other.
Properties
PETG is stronger and more flexible than PVC, but PVC is more resistant to water and chemicals.
Uses
PETG is often used in packaging and signage applications, while PVC is used in a wide range of applications, including construction, flooring, and inflatable products.
Recyclability
PETG is more easily recycled than PVC, as it can be melted down and remolded into new products. PVC is more difficult to recycle, as it requires specialized recycling facilities.
Chemical resistance
Another difference between the two films is their chemical resistance. PETG film is resistant to a wide range of chemicals, including acids and bases, while PVC film is more resistant to alkalis and is not as resistant to acids.
Overall, the choice between PETG film and PVC film will depend on the specific requirements of the application, such as the required strength, flexibility, and chemical resistance.

PVC or PETG: Breaking the Myths
PVC Shrink Films have ruled the Indian packaging industry for the longest time. However, due to many issues associated with PVC, a need was felt to find an alternative material that could potentially replace PVC and become the superior choice.
Several different polymers were introduced and tested in the market but saw little success. Finally, PET-G was born, with the hope that the packaging industry had found the best shrink sleeve, till date.
However, some questions remain unanswered:
Is it practical and even possible to replace PVC altogether?
Is PVC truly all bad and PET-G all good?
Can PETG Shrink Films offer the same quality and finish as PVC Shrink Films?
Do companies have the resources, know-how and infrastructure to use PET-G packaging material for all types, shapes and sizes of containers?
Through this article, I aim to break through some common myths about PVC and PET-G and provide an objective and practical understanding of both materials; their uses, benefits and pitfalls so you can make the correct choice for your business. Let’s get started!
WHAT IS PVC?
Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC is one of the most adaptable and extensively used synthetic plastic polymers or shrink film that contains 57% chlorine and 43% carbon. PVC is made in bulk domestically, which is why it is readily accessible. PVC Shrink films are known as RIGID PVC films. They are free from plasticizers (phthalates) and eliminate the issues of chemical leaching.
PVC SHRINK FILM USES
Shrink films made of PVC are most commonly used in all kinds of shrink tunnels and container materials, especially HDPE containers for cosmetics and food products. Being a full-bodied shrink sleeve, PVC offers additional space as well as several practical benefits when it comes to designing the best packaging for your products.
BENEFITS OF PVC SHRINK FILMS
· PVC shrink films aid in communicating crucial product-specific details to the end-user as specified by the regulatory bodies.
· When attached to container caps, PVC shrink films provide a tamper-proof seal that protects the contents from adulteration and reduces the chances of malpractice.
· These films make life easier by providing a holistic design view of pre-formed film bands, specially manufactured to fit specific shapes of containers. With a 360° view easily available, there is no requirement for a custom-made design.
WHAT IS PETG?
Popularly referred to as PETG or PET-G, Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol is a kind of thermoplastic polyester celebrated for its superb pliability. PET-G is exceptionally long-lasting and resistant to chemicals, making it a great choice for various production processes.
PETG SHRINK FILMS & THE DEBATE AGAINST PVC
As mentioned earlier, Shrink PETG was created as an alternative to PVC due to two main problems –
LOW SHRINKAGE: PVC has only up to 50-60% TD shrinkage which can cause a flowering effect when packaging certain shapes of bottles. PETG offers a much higher shrinkage percentage, between 70-80%, making it a smarter choice.
THREATS TO THE ENVIRONMENT: When PVC is not disposed off correctly and dumped into garbage landfills or burnt, it releases dangerous carcinogenic gases and dioxin due to its chlorine content. These pose serious environmental and health concerns for years to come.
Hence, PVC is considered the most ‘TROUBLED’ plastic material in use today.
IS PETG THE BETTER ALTERNATIVE TO PVC? BREAKING THE MYTHS
1. Printed PVC waste is easily recyclable with multiple applications such as pipes, window frames, cable insulation, floors coverings, roofing sheets etc. Printed PET-G waste is difficult to recycle and does not have many applications. Most of it has to be incinerated completely.
TAKEAWAY: If PVC is collected and disposed of properly, it can return high value to companies that recycle PVC scrap.
2. PETG is Non-Chlorinated but doesn’t work well as a shrink film with few container materials.
TAKEAWAY: All types of PVC sleeves cannot be easily replaced by PETG. Hence, PETG is not the perfect solution or replacement for PVC as it is usually considered to be.
3. Shrinking PETG is a complicated process, especially if you have access to non-sophisticated shrink tunnel infrastructure.
TAKEAWAY: Shifting to PETG Shrink Sleeves is not easy and may require you to make heavy additional investments.
4. There is widespread production of Shrink PVC in India. Whereas PET-G is either imported or made only by a few bigger filmmakers.
TAKEAWAY: Shifting from PVC to PETG can negatively impact the local and domestic economy.
5. The need for specialized steam tunnels and in some cases, multi-stage hot air tunnels to correctly sleeve PET-G shrink films makes it an expensive and somewhat unpopular choice. Even with the most advanced infrastructure, there may be limitations in the performance of PET-G, as compared to PVC.
Often, when using PETG in hot air tunnels, the HDPE or PP container expands before the time the sleeve is shrunk onto the container. After the container returns to normal temperature and its normal size, air pockets get formed between the sleeve and the container wall.
In sharp contrast, PVC is flexible and adapts to the container’s shape even with a basic hot air tunnel. It delivers great results and reduces reprocessing or rejection.
TAKEAWAY: PVC shrink films are painless to shrink on most containers compared to a PET-G shrink film. They are also energy-efficient and cost-effective choices that get the job done quickly.
6. Most Indian small-medium enterprises have access to basic shrink tunnels for the application of PVC shrink sleeves. Moving to other materials means these companies must invest heavily in more sophisticated technology and infrastructure, not easily available.
TAKEAWAY: PVC shrink films are obvious and sometimes the only possible choice.
7. When using PETG for labelling containers with thin walls or pre-labelling containers that are empty, it is crucial to maintain just the right shrink conditions. Otherwise, there may be major distortions in the label and the container.
TAKEAWAY: PETG’s shrink force is on the higher side that can lead to contortions.
CAN PET-G REPLACE PVC?
PET-G has various benefits including a higher shrinkage, durability and resistance to chemicals. Undoubtedly, it is one of the best contenders as a shrink sleeve choice for packaging needs. However, now that there is a major shift towards PETG, another problem has raised its head, one that we cannot ignore.
RECYCLING MIXED WASTE
The waste reaching our landfills is a mixture of PVC and PETG. Even though PVC can be easily recycled, PETG waste cannot be, and this reduces its usefulness to companies who deal with recycling. Segregating the PVC and PETG waste is even more difficult.
Burning PVC is harmful but burning PETG isn’t good or useful either.
So does PETG have the capability to completely replace the demand for PVC in India – considering that it does not work well in all situations, can lead to distortions and may require a higher level of investment on technology and infrastructure? Only time will tell.
OTHER ALTERNATIVES TO PVC AND PETG
OPS (Oriented Polystyrene): Created in Japan, OPS offers the same flexibility as PVC but costs much more since it is an imported product and requires constant refrigeration. It is a preferred choice for companies who don’t want to use PVC or looking for more superior performance than that offered by PETG films.
LD-PET (Low-Density Polyethylene Terephthalate): LD-PET costs less than OPS while offering the same level of versatility. The yield is higher than PETG and PVC and has a density of 1.1 with lower utilization of plastic. LD-PET performance has been observed to be at par with PVC.
NEXT PETG: This is an advanced PETG created to function well on HDPE/PP containers in hot air tunnels without creating undesirable air pockets. It has got better performance than regular PETG. To ensure perfect performance, NEXT PETG should undergo trials in varying weather conditions.
ROSO (Roll on Sleeve): ROSO is a PP-based shrink film that is roll-fed. Its shrinkage ratio is limited and can only be used in certain conditions.
PLA (Polylactic Acid): This shrink film is completely free from plastic but not widely used since it is costly. It is made from sugarcane or corn starch and is 100% biodegradable.
COC (Cyclic Olefin Copolymer): This is a Polyolefin-based shrink sleeve. The differentiating factor is its lower than the density of 1 and is usually ideal for shrink sleeves with a density of 1+ for easy segregation during recycling by floatation method. However, it is not easily available and the cost is higher too.
CONCLUSION:
Clearly, it is too soon to conclude which shrink sleeve option is the best or which one ranks higher over the other. However, the need of the hour is to understand the problems that exist.
I am hopeful that sooner or later, our Government, as well as our packaging scientists, will find the most workable solutions that protect our environment and support the ever-changing and evolving needs of the packaging industry.
But till then, it is crucial for all of us to SEGREGATE, DISPOSE OF, COLLECT AND RECYCLE WELL. Remember, plastic is not the Problem, its disposal is.

Benefits of Shrink Sleeve Labels
5 Reasons Why Shrink Sleeve Labels are a Popular Labeling Choice
Looking for a new way to stand out on the shelves with your product’s label? You might want to consider shrink sleeve labels.
Shrink sleeve labels are those that wrap around the container of your product. They’re flexible, attractive and durable. With attributes like those, it’s no wonder so many products use this style of labeling.
Here are our top five favorite reasons you might want to consider shrink sleeve labels.
1. You Get 360 Degree Branding
Shrink sleeves wrap around your entire container, which means your brand is seen no matter how a person holds the bottle or puts it back on the shelf. This type of 360-degree branding is helpful when you’re trying to get exposure. No matter how your product is displayed on the shelves or while in use by your customer, people know it’s yours.
2. It Works Well With Odd Shaped Containers
Sometimes, the shape of your container can limit the type of labeling you use. This can make labeling extraordinarily difficult.
Shrink sleeve labels solve that struggle. They adhere to the irregular shapes in your container so everything is even. If you plan your design right, you can use your labels to bring those shapes to life, making your products stand out on the shelves.
3. You Can Easily Add a Tamper Evident Seal With Ease
Ever since the Tylenol tragedy after their bottles had been tampered with, food, drug, and personal product manufacturers have become even more aware of the need for tamper evident seals.
Shrink sleeve labels make it easy to secure your products until after they’ve been purchased. One brand that does this well is Tic Tac with their 200-mint bottles. In order to access the mints, the consumer must remove the top half of the label making it impossible to tamper with the product without anyone noticing.
4. Your Containers Are Kept Eco-Friendly
Want to go green in your business? Not sure if you want to use eco-friendly labeling? Shrink sleeve labels are a great alternative. They enable you to keep your containers eco-friendly without having to worry about adhesive or other non-eco friendly labeling concerns. Consumers can discard the shrink sleeve wrap and throw the container in the recycle bin.
5. It’s Abrasion Resistant
With shrink sleeve labels, you keep your products looking good! These labels are resistant to scratching, tears, and other damages. The graphics are mirror finish printed, which means it’s harder to scuff or scrape the coloration off the label. You never have to worry about having your label tarnished during the shipping and unloading process.
Here’s What You Should Know About Shrink Sleeve Labels…
Convinced yet? If you’re considering shrink sleeve labels after reading these five benefits, there are a few things to know about how they’re made and what to expect after the label is applied.
The film for these labels is created in a sleeve. You will often times receive these labels in rolls for auto application. If you’re applying the labels by hand, you will receive it as a cut sheet.
Your labeling company will send the label to you in a refrigerated truck so it does not ruin the material. Be sure to store these labels in a cool place so they can remain in the best condition possible.
To apply these labels, the shrink sleeve is heated up to conform to the shape of your container. This is why it’s so easy for the label to conform to odd shaped containers – it melts perfectly into place. Please note: If you’re using an odd shaped container, it’s a good idea to do a grid pattern test label. Most labeling companies will provide this after reviewing the bottle to determine the level of shrink and the distortion needed for the art files. This way, if your container has odd shapes and contours, the label still looks flawless when it’s applied.
Question: Have you ever tried shrink sleeve labels? Why or why not?
The benefits to this type of label are clear. They look good, maintain their integrity, and keep your business eco-friendly. We’re especially fond of them because they make it impossible to tamper with your products without anyone noticing.

Typographic and graphic tips to increase your label’s effectiveness
Typographic and graphic tips to increase your label’s effectiveness
This month, we’re back with a blog post dedicated to the label and how, thanks to graphic and typographic tricks, you can increase its effectiveness!
A few months ago, we shared a blog on the importance of packaging in your marketing strategy and how to choose packaging labels.
We know that packaging and labeling contribute to the success of a product.
Here are some tips to further enhance your labels!
1- Choosing the right typography for your label
The choice of typography for your label is important! Each font has significance and an identity. Your label should convey a message, and reflect your brand image. There are websites, such as Dafont, which allow you to find a more custom typographic style: manuscript, modern, sans serif
For your label to attract attention, avoid run-of-the-mill and dare to use fonts that are rarely used so that you’ll be remembered. On the other hand, a classic or timeless look is also important as your label is designed to live for more than just a few months/years.
Characters that are too fine, elaborate or embellished, or too squeezed in together, may not be readable. A bold that is “too” bold may, on the other hand, be aggressive. It is up to you to find the right balance and to adapt the typography to the image of your products.
2- Play with textual content
The logo, the slogan, or the catchphrase, all these elements are paramount and will have a significant impact on the act of buying.
In the catchphrase or the text, you can play on the curiosity that will encourage the consumer to want to learn more, and therefore, encourage the purchase.
Share the emotion, deliver a message through your label: “respect for the environment”, “locally sourced”,… Promote your product!
3- Use attractive graphics
Want to develop a label that is more graphic and colorful? Why not! Simply be consistent with the message you are broadcasting and the typography used.
It’s important that your customers be able to read the message, easily identify your product, in addition to understanding the labels, including the nutritional value information.
4- Identifying the right partner for your label printing
The final rendering of your label will come down to print quality. Therefore, you should carefully select the right printer! At IMS, we are identification solutions specialists with vast expertise!

Study shows shrink sleeve film boosts recycling rates
Study shows shrink sleeve film boosts recycling rates
Shrink sleeve films are one of the fastest growing label segments, in large part due to the shelf impact created by their ability to provide a 360-degree product presentation.
According to US firm AWA Alexander Watson Associates, shrink sleeves are growing at 5.5% CAGR and expected to reach 12,750 million square metres in sales in 2018.
To date, however, one of the drawbacks has been the recyclability of shrink sleeves, and global brand owners are actively seeking ways to increase the recyclability of shrink sleeved PET containers to reduce their environmental footprint.
It has the solution in the form of its new RafShrink PO MDO 40 HS product.
The company presented the results of a full-body shrink sleeve label recycling study, featuring the new material at the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) Technical Forum in New Orleans, Louisiana,on 1 February.
The study, conducted with Plastic Forming Enterprises, demonstrated that RafShrink, a polyolefin-based, roll-fed shrink film label provides significant recyclability gains over PETG labels, currently the industry-standard film label for shrink sleeve applications, when used with clear PET bottles.
UPM Raflatac claims RafShrink PO MDO 40 HS provides superior branding on complex container shapes due to its high MDO shrinkage of 61% at 95°C and its best-in-class haze at 3%, high clarity and gloss. The shrink film also can be applied at high speeds, labelling more than 50,000 containers per hour.
The study shows that during the recycling process, the polyolefin material ensures clean separation from clear PET bottles by floating to the top of the caustic washing solution, unlike PVC and PETG labels, which sink with PET bottle material. RafShrink PO MDO 40 HS meets the Critical Guidance by Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) and by European Plastic Bottle Platform (EPBP).
The research study tested RafShrink PO against PETG labels on clear and coloured PET bottles and other packaging materials. RafShrink PO labels provided average detection rates of 92% versus 40% for PETG sleeve labels when tested at six leading near infrared (NIR) equipment manufacturers.
The study shows that clear PET bottles can be detected by NIR sorting equipment even when covered with a full-body PO-based shrink sleeve. As a result, brand owners who use RafShrink PO MDO 40 HS can significantly improve the PET packaging recyclability rates, while ensuring that the recycled clear PET containers continue to provide the outstanding clarity and quality they require for reuse on global food and beverage products.
"We are proud to offer a polyolefin-based shrink sleeve film, RafShrink PO MDO 40 HS, for the food and beverage market. RafShrink meets global manufacturers' exacting requirements for a lightweighted full-body shrink sleeve solution that delivers exceptional branding, productivity and sustainability,"
Key advantages of shrink sleeve labels for bottles
Key advantages of shrink sleeve labels for bottles
Shrink sleeves are quickly gaining popularity as an ideal label for many products across multiple industries. As shrink sleeve converting and application technology has become more mainstream, the graphic design versatility, coupled with creative marketing enabled by container shape creates product differentiation that can be leveraged by many consumer goods companies. Whether a food, beverage, household cleaning product, pharmaceutical or nutraceutical bottle, shrink sleeves are a great labeling option.
Shrink sleeve’s advantages
Shrink sleeve labels offer two key advantages for bottles when compared to other label decorating technologies.
Shrink sleeves can support full-container decoration. Because sleeve labels can in many cases cover the entire bottle, product marketers and label designers have a larger surface area for stylistic considerations. Traditional spot labels are smaller and limit the amount and area available to display product information. Using shrink sleeves for bottles can utilize the full container as a platform for product branding, product information, promotions and communication of regulatory information. The ability to print on the majority of the available area of a bottle provides the manufacturer with a method to provide more product information to the consumer when compared to other options.
The other key advantage is the compatibility between shrink sleeves and uniquely shaped bottles. A container’s shape is an important aesthetic, and adjusting the shape is a common way to stand out and differentiate from competition. However, there are some tradeoffs when traditional pressure sensitive labels are applied to uniquely shaped containers. These tradeoffs include limited label size and information content, and potential label application issues. Shrink sleeves can solve these issues through full container decoration.
What to examine when considering shrink sleeves for bottles
Product information requirements to be displayed on the container can be a key consideration. Depending on market segment, there may be varying regulations that determine what information is required to appear on the package and be accessible to consumers. Shrink sleeve label designs can offer options to integrate more product information into the label’s graphics.
It is important to consider the application process when choosing shrink sleeve labels for bottles. In the shrink sleeve label segment, many contract decorators can provide an entry point for a consumer goods company interested in using shrink sleeve labels for the first time. Pre-applied labels to empty containers can be an effective solution for initial switch into using shrink sleeve labels. This can also create flexibility for managing small run quantities, completing test marketing or managing capital investment decisions related to installation of new labeling equipment.
Before going through the shrink tunnel, shrink sleeve labels are applied either by a machine in a continuous manner, or individually applied by hand. Manually applying labels can be an ideal choice for short runs or for managing particularly complex shapes. Hand-applied labels are also a good option for minimizing initial capital costs. Machine-applied labels are used for longer run applications, and can support a wide range of run speeds at varying capital costs.
Common problems labeling experts can help avoid
Effective label design requires specific software and trained design staff to optimize label appearance. By relying on the experience of a labeling expert, many manufacturers avoid design problems in the layout of artwork on the sleeve. Unexpected and potentially unattractive results are avoided by working with designers that have experience with sleeve label technology.
Label material selection is impacted by container shape, labeling equipment and design of the shrink tunnel. Proper material selection will ensure that the finished label shrinks properly through the process, and avoids flaws in the finished label’s appearance.
The label’s seam is commonly overlooked. Knowledgeable designers can implement the seam into the design along with placement on the bottle. Additionally, proper converting practices are required to ensure accurate application of the solvent used to join the label seam. Inaccurate application, or use of the wrong solvent, can result in a range of problems from open or poorly formed seams, to blocking of the label material prior to label application.
